New manager at Barham Crematorium

The new manager of Barham Crematorium says it’s crucial to remember that it belongs to the community as he looks to provide exceptional care and support to local families and the bereaved.

Remy David said: “Everything we do is for the local communities.”

This is Remy’s first job with Westerleigh Group, one of the UK’s largest owner-operators of crematoria and cemeteries, with 40 sites in England, Scotland, and Wales, all set within beautifully landscaped gardens of remembrance which provide pleasant, tranquil places for people to visit and reflect.

Remy was born and raised in France, where he went to catering college to become a head waiter and a Sommelier. He relocated to  England in 1994 and spent 10 years in the hotel and catering industry.

He then spent a number of years in the retail industry before applying for the position at Barham Crematorium.

He said: “I was attracted by the service element of the role, being able to support families in difficult times and provide exceptional service, as well as leading and being part of a team that will have a strong passion for helping people.”

Remy admits he was not sure how family and friends would react about his change of career but said: “I was overwhelmed by the reactions I got, all of my friends and family have been really supportive.

“I feel it is a privilege to be trusted to lead a site like Barham Crematorium, which has been serving the community since 1956.

“My aim is to ensure that every family that entrusts us with the final journey of their loved one will receive the exceptional service.

“I am also looking forward to working alongside our funeral director partners to ensure we deliver services that will suit our ever-changing society.

“We will guide and support families, listen to what they would like us to do as well as ensure our grounds and facilities are always at their best whenever a family wishes to visit or respect their loved ones.

“I am equally passionate about working alongside and supporting many local charities and organisations, such as Pilgrims Hospice, which we raise money for through special services and events, like our Christmas Carol, Mother’s Day and Father’s Day activities.

“I am very proud to be entrusted to manage such a special place and I look forward to building strong relationships with my team, our partners and, of course, the local communities we serve.”
